classes have been running in Nottingham for several years, but since 2004, we have been based at the Festival Inn, Trowell where we run 3 classes and a night of social dancing every Tuesday from 8pm (doors open by 7:45) until 11pm
Ilkeston Road, Trowell, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG9 3PX. Venue Tel. 0115 9322691 We are little more than 5 mins away from J25 of the M1
We run 3 classes / night, a general beginners class, then an Intermediate / Advanced class AND a CONSECUTIVE Improvers class
- suitable for absolute beginners (please try to arrive 15 mins early on your 1st night for registration) as well as more experienced dancers
- suitable for experienced dancers only (you'll be expected to know 6Bt / 8Bt core moves and Charleston and be a capable social dancer. You will have been dancing LindyHop for 3 months or more
- suitable for New Beginners and Improvers at the point of moving up to Intermediate level (this is a free-format class, there will be some revision of the Beginners class with time spent on the detail & technique. Intermediates often join this class to go over a style point)
Different things work for different people, we are not a 1940's recreation group, so clothes of the period are not required (though you're welcome to dress up if you like). Generally, flat shoes (perhaps even a change of shoes with grippy / slippy soles) and loose fitting clothes are best. The tempo can get quite heated and despite the Air Conditioning, you'll be glowing by the end of the evening.
In reality, no since we regularly rotate the class so everyone has a chance to dance with everyone else. This also works best since newbies get a chance to gain from our more experienced dancers. If you do bring a partner, this is better since it helps to keep the numbers balanced between guys and gals. We do however manage a good balance of about 20 girls to 15 guys.
Of course, some people find it uncomfortable dancing with strangers, so if you have come with a partner and want to stick with them, then thats fine by us, you'll progress a little more slowly but thats fine
This is difficult to answer since the class changes on a weekly basis, but
we have always been fortunate in having a very broad age mix. Our youngest
is a very mature 14yrs old, our oldest a decidedly young 60-something.
